July 2023, Williams Racing Fan Event
Interviewer: So what is it like working as a woman in STEM in this business?
Subject: So I work with a charity sponsored by Williams Racing, and they sponsor us at events where we can go into schools and provide an honest look into STEM activities. For example, we take in some Williams Racing STEM tech, and they are able to build their own cars so they can do racing. We want to encourage more young people to start in STEM.
Interviewer: That’s amazing! So how did you get into this area of work?
Subject: So actually, I came from China, and STEM has always been the field I wanted to start in, but unfortunately there is a stereotype, so like, girls should start in humanities, and I started in education but after I graduated I thought ‘I can use my knowledge to go back into the STEM field’.
Interviewer: That’s really cool! So who has inspired you as a whole to get here?
Subject: Myself!
Interviewer: You know what that is the best answer for that question I feel.
Subject: Yeah, If you know you want to do something, even if you can’t start it as a child, as you grow up you’ll remember why you love it!
Interviewer: Naomi Downs
